Why is it so hard to find a remote job right now?
Whatever you’re feeling, you are not alone.
Hi friend,
If you’ve been applying to remote jobs and hearing nothing back, you’re not alone—and it’s not your fault. The truth is, the remote job market in 2025 is tougher than ever. Here’s why:
1. Higher Competition
Remote roles attract applicants from everywhere, not just locally. A single job can get hundreds—sometimes thousands—of applications.
2. Fewer Remote Roles
After the pandemic boom, many companies pulled back on remote work and pushed for hybrid. That means fewer opportunities for fully remote positions.
3. Hiring Slowdowns
Tech companies and others are cautious after layoffs, so new roles are being added slowly—and sometimes frozen entirely.
4. Longer Hiring Cycles
Even when you’re a strong candidate, the process takes longer: multiple interviews, tests, and long gaps with no updates. If your resume doesn’t pass an ATS filter, it might never get seen.
5. Hidden Jobs Aren’t Visible
Not every company posts on LinkedIn or Indeed. Many list jobs only on their own sites or smaller boards—so if you’re not looking in the right places, you’ll miss them.
Here’s the good news: it’s not impossible. You just need a better system—apply early, go beyond LinkedIn, and find those hidden roles before everyone else does.
That’s why I built RemoteFront—to help job seekers like you find real remote jobs faster. We track 6,000+ companies and update listings hourly, so you can be first in line.
📚 What I’m Reading
The Effective Engineer by Edmond Lau. As a software engineer, this book hit home. It dives deep into why so many engineers feel busy but aren’t truly productive—and how to focus on the highest-leverage activities that actually move the needle. It’s full of practical tips, like how to prioritize projects, communicate better with your team, and measure impact instead of output. Honestly, it’s making me rethink how I spend my time—not just at work, but in life.
🎧 What I’m Listening To
The Genius of Dogs by Brian Hare. This is the second book about dogs I’ve picked up because I’ve been seriously thinking about getting one soon. What’s fascinating is how this book flips the script—dogs aren’t just loyal companions, they’ve evolved an incredible social intelligence that rivals even primates in some ways. It’s given me a whole new perspective on our animal friends and how deeply they understand us. Highly recommend if you’re a dog lover—or just curious about the science behind man’s best friend.
Stay steady,
Morgan
